Louis Kirby, MD bio
Louis Kirby, is a board certified neurologist, business founder and CEO, is a specialist in CNS drug development, medical devices, and laboratory developed diagnostics, and is experienced in working with the FDA and EMA and forming and managing international cross functional scientific teams.
As a board certified a neurologist, Louis Kirby spent his first post graduate years in a busy neurological practice specializing in neurodegenerative diseases. Subsequently, he founded several companies including Pivotal Research Centers, which grew to become one of the largest free-standing private clinical research operations of its kind. He negotiated a favorable buy-out in 2005 to a public company.
He has extensive drug development experience having worked as a PI on over 400 clinical trials, focusing on CNS research, plus he has consulted with pharmaceutical companies on portfolio management, protocol design, feasibility, site selection, research operations and more.
Following the sale of Pivotal Research Centers, he worked as Chief Medical Officer at Provista Life Sciences developing blood based biomarkers for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. He also worked as medical director and strategic consultant for two actively developed compounds for Parkinson’s and ALS (Neuraltus Pharmaceuticals).
At the nonprofit Critical Path Institute, he was a director and co-chair, working with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s biomarkers in the regulatory arena, working as a neutral liaison between academia, industry and the FDA/EMA (formerly EMEA). He assembled international expert panels and managed their deliberations. He wrote significant parts of four regulatory submissions, one of which was approved by the EMA (MRI biomarkers in AD) with the rest currently pending.
Currently, Louis Kirby is co-founder of ZettaScience (ZettaScience.com), a mission-based science infrastructure company designed to accelerate innovation worldwide. ZettaScience will provide a shared global data search function for researchers, universities, government and industry that promotes deeper scientific collaboration and new opportunities for information sharing and collaboration on pressing global challenges. It has assembled a scientific advisory board and is currently seeking definitive funding.
Louis Kirby sits on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC) and leads their Medical Research committee. He also writes science based thrillers. Shadow of Eden, a medical and political thriller currently is an Amazon bestseller.
Louis Kirby is married to his bride of over 20 years and has one high school aged daughter now learning to drive. In his spare time he likes to hike the Grand Canyon, bike, and take pictures of anything that strikes his fancy.
